Educational severe weather iPad application.
The goal was to create a new idea for the 2013 The Weather Channel Hackathon. Our idea was a conceptual iPad application that would provide information about severe storms in an interactive, educational format. The App focused on severe weather with the first part highlighting hurricane formations, which would be extended into blizzards, tornados, thunderstorms and other severe weather.
In the three day span, we worked together to develop a functional native iPad application featuring core animations, sprite kit, and parallax behavior. The four person team consisted of two designers and two developers. To ensure the application told a well laid out story, we thoroughly researched hurricanes from the stages of the storm, wind speeds, formations, areas most commonly hit, and safety & preparation. The process involved sketching out wireframe ideas, creating Photoshop storyboards, saving out application graphics, and fully developing the application. For the reveal we presented the concept and demoed the live application.
